Six years ago when we moved to Austin I fell in love with the giant Oak tree in our front yard. I have always thought it would be perfect for a tree swing. I am so glad that Uncle Justin and Aunt Amber helped me make that dream come true. Justin and I were reliving our childhood with under dogs and spider swinging. So glad that we got to enjoy the last day of January outside in this beautiful weather.

Shiner! Austin, TX Family Photographer
Our family has had our share of shiners this month (literally & figuratively)!
A little over a month ago, the day before Christmas Eve to be exact, I was leaving an editing session and slipped and fell, hard, on my tailbone! It had just started raining and I was trying to protect my laptop and camera bag. I was in the parking lot walking over a speed bump and went down. Since my hands were full I had nothing to brace my fall. I was able to some how make it to my car, call John, and get out of my mouth that I had fallen and was hurt BAD. Thank goodness his office was close to the incident, and he came in a panic. He didn't know if I had fallen on my head or what. Anyway, I had X-rays, it wasn't broken but badly bruised. We were flying to Florida the next morning and I hadn't packed a thing. I was a mess! Mostly thinking that I had just ruined our Christmas. I made the decision to grin and bear it (while on Vicodin) b/c I really wanted to spend Christmas with my family, on the beach, AND all of Santa Claus had already been sent with those family members who were driving. I was so glad we went, of course, the kids had an amazing time.
The last night in Florida, Finn got really sick to his stomach. We were up with him all night. We made it back home on the plane, with no issues, and chalked it up to a bad reaction to something he ate. Nope!! Two nights later, all at the same time, John, Eloise and I all get the nasty, nasty stomach bug. Brutal!! (Also, my poor sister-in-law, still in Florida, got it too).
So a few weeks go by we think we are in the clear and guess what... our family gets the FLU!!!! I swear we take vitamins! The kids had flu shots, so there's was very mild. John and I, being complete idiots, did not get the shot this year and got hit hard. I had to call my sweet mom to come down for reinforcements, it was that bad! We have learned our lesson and will always get the flu shot in the future.
Last, but not least, Eloise got this shiner a couple of days ago. She slipped and fell hitting her baby stroller on the way down. Like mother; like daughter. :(
We are ready to put this month behind us and have a healthy, pain free, February!!

DIY- Christmas Card Placemats
It has been nice with the Holiday photo rush being over; I have had some time to get my own projects accomplished.
A few years ago, just like many of you, I wanted to do something more with my Christmas Cards than stick them in a folder, add a year to the outside, to never look at them again. Finn was really little and I wanted to keep the photos out so that he would have photo reminders of friends and family members. I came up with the idea to cut out all the photos and names and make them into placemats. We enjoy using them year round, and have had many talks around the people on our placemats. They are perfect for kids and wiping down spills. I just finished the 2010 placemats and thought I would share.

First I cut out the photos and names, little sayings and "2010" from each card. I try and not add anything "Christmas" to the placemats so we can use them all year. I bought 2 sheets of poster board, traced the size of placemat I wanted. I made mine 11.5" x 17". Last years was a little smaller but I had less cards. I cut the poster board and then used a glue stick to glue the photos on. I took the placemats to Miller Blueprint to be laminated. I suggest a print shop vs kinkos for better laminating. And there you go, our Christmas Card Placemats!

The Whole Family- Austin, TX Extended Family Photographer
This extended family's session ALMOST didn't happen. There was a case of pneumonia, a canceled flight from Denver, and a tree falling on a roof. We had to reschedule, and even with all that, we were able to get together for some GREAT family photos. Here are just a few of the images taken in Liberty Hill, TX...
